Last time we played H&R they were 2 divisions higher and beat us comfortably, so today was a good test of how we have come on since 2 promotions. We played 9-a-side and performed brilliantly against a strong and well drilled side. Jasmine and Talulah played their first games for us and did brilliantly. Although it was out only game this season without scoring it really was a fantastic performance to end the league season with. well done girls!!
Its a sign of how far we've come that a draw in this league felt like a loss, such was the quality we showed on the pitch. This was probably our best passing performance of the season with the whole team finding team mates with ease. Sophia played with an injured foot and was an absolute rock at the back. Lara had an injured knee and chased down everything up front. Great commitment girls! Sylvia scored a classy opener and it felt like we would hold on for the win, but WW scored with their only shot, and although we kept pushing up until the last second we couldn't find the winner. Great performance to you all.
Goals: Sylvia
Haribo Challenge: Charlotte
A proper football centre, with 6 matches happening at once made for a lively experience. As did a very athletic and physical opposition and a picky ref! We took the lead when Charlotte smashed in from the edge of the box, but Caterham equalised as a corner bounced through the box and was lashed into the top corner. A very even match was won when Caterham broke down the left and a shot was fired in off the far post. Great effort all round.
Goals: Charlotte. (Don't ask who won the Haribo challenge.....)
First 9-a-side match played in lovely weather against a strong, athletic opposition. What a great performance! The girls ran and ran on a much bigger pitch that they were used to, and there were some amazing defensive performances as well, especially from our Centre backs for todays game, Sophia, Emily and Annabelle, who marshalled their defensive team brilliantly. Nice finishes from Layla and Sylvia saw us draw a game, which if anything we could have won we played so well. Great work!
Goals: Layla, Sylvia
Our first game in the next division saw us come up against a well drilled Met Police team. The match was extremely close, other than a crazy few minutes where we let in 3 goals, but the girls battled away until the end with Layla scoring a top corner ripper with the last kick of the game.
Sophie also won our second Haribo challenge! Go girl!!!!
Goals: Layla
A trip to the HQ of the Surrey FA, although the pitch we played on was better suited to skiing than football it was such a steep slope! A battling, sleepover affected, performance saw us fight to the last, but with the opposition hitting the post 4 times, it was probably a fair result!
Wondered if the girls would be unhappy, but a crazy swinging death trap in the attached playground seemed to cheer them up no end!!!
Goals: Sylvia, Sophia
A tight game against a strong team saw the game change as Layla dropped a shoulder, took on 2 defenders, and fired a powerful shot across the keeper into the far corner. A rampaging run by Sylvia later on resulting in a cool finish was the icing on the cake.
Today also marked our first Haribo Challenge, with Charlotte smashing it like a Pinata first try! Legend!!!
Goals: Layla (2), Sylvia
A great defensive team effort saw goals by Emily and Sophia leave us 2-0 up with only a quarter to play, but a strong Horsley comeback made it 2-2, and very nervous ending finished the game with a deserved draw. Then we headed to Kingsmeadow to watch the Chelsea Ladies win.
Goals: Emily, Sophia
Arriving at the game we were all slightly worried we had the wrong pitch, as 3 of their girls were taller than me, but as a wise girl once told me "the bigger they are the harder they fall" and a 6-1 win was well deserved. Highlight of the game was Lexie chasing their winger for 20 metres before blocking her shot!
Goals: Eve (2), Layla (2), Sophie, Sylvia
Match was played on the familiar astro of the girls training ground, and they certainly felt at home as we beat Oxshott for the first time in 3 games. The goals were shared around in what was an excellent performance. We also provided the goalkeepers for the opposition, and the girls pulled off more saves than I've ever seen before!!!
Goals: Eve, Emily, Charlotte, Layla, Sylvia
With the GPR Blues top division team having made a few signings their feeder side was much strengthened and the game was far closer than our previous one, but Sylvia and Eve both scored lovely goals to see us win with a fine defensive performance. Eve also completed the first header of the season, to much applause!
Goals: Eve, Sylvia
Another season starts with a visit to the Blades, and at 2-1 with a quarter to go we were well in it, before the twins got their shooting boots on and saw them pull away. Some amazing man marking from Sylvia and Fleur however saw us keep them much quieter than before.
Goals: Sylvia
Such a tight game, that looked like it would end in defeat in the December sun, until Sophie popped up with a minute to go and slammed in the equalizer!
Goals: Sophie
With planned opposition pulling out we were matched against a team 2 divisions higher up, and put on a cracking performance. Sophie and Fleur both scored, and we certainly didn't look out of our depth.
Goals: Sophie, Fleur
Sylvia gave us an early lead, in a game that it looked like we'd win easily, but Mole Valley are a strong team and came back into the game to grab a draw.
Goals: Sylvia
Here we go again.....first away game against the Blades, and at 3-2 with a quarter to go it looked like we were in the game. Then the twins switched on and bashed 5 goals in. Oh well!
Goals: Charlotte, Layla, Sophia
Our first game at the interesting smelling Lower Green saw us missing 4 players with covid and another to Scouts.....only for the opposition to only turn up with 6! We agreed to play 6-a-side but their best player Lucy took advantage of the extra space and scored enough to beat us. A fantastic sole effort from Fleur on debut meant we at least got a goal on the board!
Goals: Fleur
First game after promotion and our covid depleted team took to the new league with great confidence. A first goal from Daniella (a poachers special) and a stunning first time, top corner pinger from Sophie bookended 2 great goals from Sylvia. We had more trouble getting out of the carpark!
Goals: Sylvia (2), Daniella, Sophie
This game had it all! Fine goals, solid defending, punctures on the way there...... The game lit up in the second minute when Charlotte picked up the ball outside the box and fired it into the top corner. 'Ave it!. At 2-1 up the game still looked close, but Lara's first 2 goals for the team, and Charlotte completing her hatrick, saw us pull away to an easy win.
Goals: Charlotte (3), Lara (2), Sophia, Sylvia
Ok, I sort of lost count here, but I hear the bacon sandwiches were excellent! Not really much to complain about when winning 14-0. Even the rain held off. Eve played like a prime Ronaldo (the original one, look him up girls) and constantly rushed through their defence before giving their keeper no chance, and Emily scored her first hatrick. 2 goals each for Sophie (her first for the team), Layla and Charlotte, and 1 from Sophia completed the Rugby score.
Goals: Eve (4), Emily (3), Charlotte (2), Layla (2), Sophie (2), Sophia
Having lost one and drawn one surely we'd win this?!?! Of course we would. Dani's birthday was celebrated in style with a resounding 5-0 win, and a fine London Marathon result for one of our parents sealed a perfect day (other than the fact the oppo stole one of my adidas Tango balls! Grrrrr)
Goals: Layla (2), Sophia (2), Sylvia
Surely it couldn't be as hard as last week could it??? Nope, much better. With new training tops we are leading 2-1 with a minute to go and it looked like we'd pick up our first win, until a controversial penalty saw the game end in a draw. Probably a fair result looking back on it.
Goals: Layla, Sylvia
Our first game as a team, whats it going to be like? What will the opposition be like??? Turns out the Bourne Blades have a couple of twins I wouldn't fancy playing against! For a while its the Layla vs Lilly show as they trade punches, but in the end Lilly lands 10 and Layla 5, and with a fine goal by Sophia we start our campaign being involved in an extremely enjoyable goal fest. This could be fun!!!!
Goals: Layla (5), Sophia
